Marty Stephens, former Monroe County Republican Party Chairman, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of Richland Township Trustee in the Republican party primary election on May 6.

Stephens has served as an Indianapolis police officer, major in the Indiana State Police, special assistant to the Commissioner of Police of the United States Virgin Islands, and is a former local business owner. He has received the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash award as well as an Honorary Secretary of State title, given to Hoosiers who have demonstrated an active dedication to the improvement of the state of Indiana.

Stephens is a graduate of Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and has been involved in law enforcement and business for over 45 years at the local, state and territorial levels.

Stephens is a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #88, Elks Lodge #446, Ellettsville Masonic Lodge #245, and the Stone Belt Shrine Club. He is a member of the Indiana Township Association and currently serves as president of the Monroe County Township Trustee's Association. Stephens has formerly served on the Monroe County Emergency Management Advisory Council, Monroe County Community Corrections Advisory Board, Bloomington Police Department Volunteer Office Applicant Interview Committee, and the Pioneers of the Indiana State Police board of directors.
